We all have followers but are we all cut out to be leaders?

A quote from a friend whom I greatly admire that he posted on twitter today reads:

“No shortage of people who claim to be leaders, or people with titles of leadership. What is missing is the actual behavior of leadership.” Joe Gerstandt

Ironically this is exactly why I am discussing this today. There are so many that taught about wanting to lead but when then get in positions of leadership do they really understand what it takes to lead? Do they really understand the tough decisions that they are going to have to make in difficult times that may affect get the livelihood of many or even just a few? Do they understand that they are going too have to make choices that may make them unpopular? Do they understand the very long hours most leaders have to put in in order for the company to have a certain level of success? And more importantly can they even begin to grasp the idea that when something does not go according to plan, that not only is everyone going to blame you, but they are also going to look to you to FIX IT AND FAST?

There are certain traits that every true leader must and WILL posses. But thats NOT what this column is about.

Again, the basic question I’m compelled to ask, is simple, we all have followers BUT are we ALL cut out to be leaders?

The answer, just MIGHT surprise you.

Why are we all so Angry?

Ok this is going to be short & sweet bc Joyll is on some medication for all mankind lol. I just want to quickly ask…Why Are We All So Angry? I log onto twitter for 5 mins & I see there’s beef between 2 hip hop “artists” and that others are initiating it & fanning it!

Seriously people, I’d venture to say that most of you would be terribly upset if something happens to either one of these gentlemen because of your constant instigation so STOP IT.

The focus of this post though is anger. In the past few weeks, we seen men kill their wives and family and themselves because their angry. We’ve seen people brutally murder their co-workers because their ANGRY. The questions are simple, why are we all so angry & what can ve done to better alleviate this anger before it boils over & we end up with all these violent & senseless deaths?

I mean, is it the economy, the state of the world, television & the media, or maybe its the hormone packed foods that many of us eat these days. We tend to be so aggressive, that often times when we hear about others & their unspeakable acts, we react with so little emotional involvement that its almost a lack thereof.

These days, it is so important to remind ourselves & each other that we are HUMAN & we should continue treating each other & living as such.

The Holiday zoneout…..Avoid the NOZONE

Hahaha ok so I feel like I’m honestly the only person working today! The holiday zone out is bad for labour day because the last big holiday was the 4th of July! This brings up a very important issue though. I call it the NOZONE. As in No way is that employee paying attention to his work. As in no way is that person focused on this conversation. As in no way, did he just say that!?!?!?! Now, how do we avoid the the unproductiveness & crude nature of the NOZONE? Spend some time with your employees WEEKLY to talk about issues, suggestions for new ideas, & goals. Simply ASK your friends, family, people in casual conversation to put the smartphone down for a second while you talk to them about something. Maybe you’re actually talking too much? Ask them what THEY’D like to talk about. I’ve found that this me-ness in the younger generations has spread like the plague to older generations as well. People think we don’t care anymore because we often act like we don’t. Prove someone wrong today. Happy Labour Day!
